Senft, Team Canada secure second win at WXV 1

Regina’s Gabrielle Senft was back on the rugby pitch with Team Canada for their second match of the WXV 1 event on Oct. 5, in Vancouver.

Fresh off their win against France, Canada was victorious again in their game against Ireland, dominating 21-8.

On Oct. 12, Senft and Canada will face the top-ranked England, for the WXV 1 finale.

Kristine Lovatt, who was born in Wilcox, is also at the tournament as an official.

Team McEwen fall in semifinals at Grand Slam Curling tour

Team McEwen hit the sheet for the 2024 Grand Slam of Curling HearingLife Tour Challenge, from Oct. 1-6 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Lead Daniel and second Kevin Marsh, who hail from Regina, joined skip Mike McEwen and third Colton Flasch in a 3-1 record in Tier 1 round robin play.

Saskatchewan defeated Team Schwaller 5-3 in quarterfinals and advanced to semifinals, where Team McEwen, fell 6-2 against Team Mouat.

Anholt named to hockey Program of Excellence management group

Naicam’s Peter Anholt was named alongside four other general managers to the Program of Excellence management group for the 2024-25 national hockey season.

For the fourth year, Anholt will lead Canada’s U20 National Junior Team through the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will take place Dec. 26 – Jan 5, in Ottawa.

Diehl trains for 2028 Paralympic Games qualification

Ali Diehl, of Prince Albert, attended the 2028 Vision Train & Compete camp from Sept. 27 – Oct. 7 in Brisbane, Australia.

The camp was developed with the intention of allowing the nine selected athletes to gain international experience as the swimmers look ahead to the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

September Athlete of the Month has double the honours

While competing at the Paris Paralympic Games, Para swimmer Shelby Newkirk and Para cyclist Keely Shaw, claimed bronze in their respective sport to share September Athlete of the Month honours.
