Nortsen, Senft, Canada finish South Africa tour

In their second match against South Africa’s Springboks women’s rugby team, Team Canada wrapped the tour on a high.

Waldheim’s Carissa Norsten and Regina’s Gabrielle Senft joined the team in dominating the Springboks 33-5. Norsten scored her first international try in her 15s debut and was named player of the match.

Canada will look ahead to their next game against the United Sates on August 1, in Ottawa.

Ostepchuk, Sopotyk join national wheelchair basketball team training camp

Regina’s Garrett Ostepchuk and Aberdeen’s Kyrell Sopotyk joined the senior men’s national wheelchair basketball team for a training camp, featuring exhibition games against Great Britain from July 11-15, in Toronto.

Following the camp, Canada will travel to Brazil for another set of games against the host country from July 16-20. Both opportunities are to help the team prepare for the IWBF Americas Cup, taking place Aug. 9–17 in Bogotá, Colombia.

Two Sask. wrestlers medal at 2025 U20 Pan-American Championships

Two Saskatchewan wrestlers contributed to the 18 medals claimed by Canada at the 2025 U20 Pan-American Championships, which took place July 10-12, in Lima, Peru.

Abby Wolff and Elizabeth Chapman, both of Saskatoon, secured medals in their respective weight class. Wolff competed in the 55-kilogram category to bring home silver, while Chapman claimed bronze in the 50-kg category.

WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals 

Canada wrapped their time at the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals 2025 in Prince Albert.

Saskatoon’s Devon McCullough and Delisle’s Max Major joined Team Canada for their 3-2 record to finish fifth overall in tournament standings.

Six athletes from Sask. to attend FISU Summer World University Games

Multiple Saskatchewan athletes are set to represent the nation at the 2025 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer World University Games from July 16 – 27 in Germany.

Saskatoon’s Jake Neufeld (decathlon), Warman’s Paige Willems (400-metre), as well as Regina’s Jonathan Podbielski (1500-m) and Hannah Hagerty (long jump) will represent Canada in athletics. They’ll be joined by Saskatoon’s Jason Reindl as a sprints/hurdles coach.

Meanwhile, Saskatoon’s Pepper Howe and Calvin Pally will represent the red and white in rowing in the women’s and men’s double scull event, respectively.

Massage therapist, Monty Churchman of Saskatoon, will join Team Canada as mission staff, while Alexandra Zaluski, also of Saskatoon, will work with the Artistic Gymnastics medial team

Wall to represent Canada at USRowing International Rowing Challenge

Rowing Canada Aviron named Saskatoon’s Heidi Wall among the 18 rowers set to represent the country at the USRowing International Rowing Challenge in Michigan, from July 15 -16.

Canada will be split into two teams, Red Team and White Team, to allow junior athletes to have more opportunities.

Wall will join White Team as they compete against New Zealand, Mexico, and the United States.
