Golden debut for Carroll
Jordan Carroll won a pair of medals during his Commonwealth Games debut, by claiming gold in both the pommel horse event and men’s artistic team event, the first Commonwealth Team Canada title in 20 years. The Saskatoon gymnast delivered the performance of a lifetime on pommel horse and contributed to the team’s overall success by scoring 14.550. In individual competition, Carroll wrapped his time at the event with a score of 15.0 on pommel horse.
Love lifts to bronze
Etta Love will be bringing back hardware with her to Saskatoon following her first Commonwealth Games and first senior international event after she lifted 250-kilograms in the women’s +86-kg category and finished third. It was her performance in the clean and jerk that brought her from fourth to third in the rankings.
3×3 Wheelchair basketball dazzles in bronze
The Canadian men’s 3×3 wheelchair basketball team, which includes athletes Garrett Ostepchuk (Regina) and Kyrell Sopotyk (Aberdeen), as well as Saskatoon head coach Jared Sajtos, are heading home with bronze medals following their dominating performance over host country, Scotland 19-9.
Race to bronze
2024 Olympian and now a 2026 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Borden’s Savannah Sutherland has added another achievement to her already impressive resume. After racing to a season best time of 54.16 seconds in the women’s 400-metre hurdles, Sutherland will be taking home a medal as her souvenir from her first Commonwealth Games.
Rounding up Saskatchewan results
Claire Norek, of Gerald, finished sixth overall in the women’s shot put F57 category and achieved a personal best distance of 6.29-metres…Maitlan Knoke, who hails from Saskatoon, secured eighth place in the men’s F55 shotput event with a season’s best distance of 9.89-m.
Overall, Saskatchewan’s contingent helped contribute to Team Canada’s 62 medals in Glasgow.
