Canada mixed finish at 2024 PanAm Aquatics U19 Championship  

Six of Regina’s water polo athletes concluded their time with the Canadian men’s and women’s team at the 2024 PanAm Aquatics U19 Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador. 

Elias Crichlow and Hamza Mahmoud with the men’s U19 team, went 3-0 in round robin action before dominating El Salvador 20-1 in quarterfinals and Columbia 11-8 in semi-finals. Canada ultimately fell 10-7 against the US in the gold medal game to take silver. 

On the women’s U19 team, Taya Bumpas, Sydney Krushen, Simone Lapierre and Anna Ulmer went 3-3 in round robin play, which qualified them for the bronze medal game against the US. Canada fell 11-10 by shootout, in overtime. 

Both teams’ performances qualified Canada for the 2025 World Aquatics Junior Men’s and Women’s World Championships.  

Canada comes home after IIHF World Hockey Championship  

Team Canada finished fourth at the IIHF World Hockey Championship in Prague, Czechia. 

Melville’s Damon Severson joined Canada to defeat Slovakia 6-3 in quarterfinals, before being edged to a 3-2 loss against Sweden in semifinals, to earn a spot in the bronze medal game. 

In that game, Canada lost 4-2 to Sweden.  

Love wins World weightlifting title 

Saskatoon’s Etta Love captured gold at the Youth World Weightlifting Championships, held in Lima, Peru May 22-26. 

Competing in the +18-kilogram division, Love completed a 105-kg snatch lift and a 138-kg clean and jerk to bring her combined total to 243-kg and earn her the top spot on the podium.
