Shaw secures Paralympic spot

Midale’s Keely Shaw will be making her Paralympic debut in Tokyo after being named to the Canadian Para cycling team in the C4 class. 

Shaw has been competing with the Canadian team for four years and captured a silver medal at her first Track worlds in 2019.

Rousell named to Paralympic fencing team

Asquith’s Ryan Rousell is one of four wheelchair fencers nominated to compete at the Tokyo Paralympics in August.  

Rousell is part of the largest group of para fencers sent to the Games by Canada and is currently ranked 15th in the world in the men’s A category in the sabre event. He will also suit up in the epee event. 

“I am very excited and proud to finally be going to Tokyo!” said Rousell. “This is my first Paralympic Games, and I am looking forward to experiencing Team Canada. Thank you to my family and coaches who helped me get to this moment.” 

Saskatoon’s Lynn Sequin will also be travelling with the Canadian squad as a team manager. 

Wheelchair fencing competition will take place from August 25 to 29 in Tokyo.

Team Canada 50/50 Launched

The Team Canada 50/50 launched to support athletes across the country.

Running throughout the Olympic Games, the proceeds are invested directly into Saskatchewan’s high performance sport system.

Metzger invited to U-18 Hockey Canada Summer Camp

Moosomin’s Ava Metzger was one of 46 athletes invited to Hockey Canada’s under-18 summer camp. She is the lone athlete from Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan strength and conditioning coach Jason Weber will also participate at the camp.

Markewich finishes sixth at rowing U-23 Championship

Saskatchewan rower Thomas Markewich finished sixth with partner Samuel Weinstein Zimbel in the lightweight men’s double event at the U-23 Rowing Championship.

The pair finished fifth in the heat, third in the repechage, sixth in the A/B semi and and sixth in the final.
