Team Saskatchewan starts off on a high in first game of 2023 Football Canada Cup

Forty of Saskatchewan’s U18 football players are in Edmonton from July 7-15 for the 2023 Football Canada Cup.

Athletes from 13 different cities and towns, helped Team Saskatchewan to a 39-0 victory over New Brunswick. Saskatchewan is set to play Ontario, July 12, in the semifinal. Alberta and Quebec are playing in the other semifinal.

The gold medal game will be played on July 15.

Bradley, Clatney, and Phillips attend the 2023 Junior (U20) Pan-American Championships  

Saskatoon’s Caitlin Clatney and Myah Phillips represented Canada at the 2023 Junior (U20) Pan-American Championships July 6-8, in Santiago, Chile. 

Clatney and Phillips, along with 16 other wrestlers earned their place at the championships based on results from the 2023 Junior Canadian Wrestling Championships.  

Phillips finished with a silver medal in the 76-kilogram weight class. She had back-to-back wins against Peru and Brazil, before being defeated by USA.  

Clatney was defeated by wrestlers representing Columbia and the US, finishing in sixth place in the 59-kg weight class.  

Santiago was a qualifier for the 2023 Junior (U20) World Championships from August 14-20 in Warsaw, Poland.  

Saskatoon’s Shane Bradley helped guide the team throughout the championship as one of the team’s coaches.  

Madol attends training camp prior to FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup

Ajok Madol from Regina attended a training camp at Humber College from June 30-July 8, before her appearance at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup from July 15-23, in Madrid, Spain.

Team Canada will be joined by Egypt, China, and Czech Republic in Group D, with China set as their first opponent July 15.

Mamer, Musschoot and Team Canada have mixed start to the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship

Isaiah Mamer from Wilkie and Grenfell’s Lucas Musschoot join Team Canada at the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s U21 World Championship from July 7 to 22, in Manama, Bahrain.

In their first game against Bulgaria, Canada lost 3-1 (12-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-27) and faced a second loss against Poland, 3-0 (14-25, 17-25, 21-25). In a drastic turn of events, Canada won back-to-back games and defeated India 3-1 (25-18, 27-29, 20-25, 22-25) and continued their streak, defeating Tunisia 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-22, 25-18).

Canada is set to play India a second time July 12, and Bahrain again on July 13.
