Dash to join Canada at Wheelchair Curling Championship

Gil Dash, of Wolseley, SK, is set to join Team Canada at the 2025 World Wheelchair Curling Championship, from March 1-8 in Stevenston, Scotland.

Canada will compete against 12 other teams as they look to beat their second-place finish at the 2024 championships.

Three Saskatchewan hockey players named to U18 Women’s World Championship roster

Team Canada will feature three Saskatchewan players at the 2025 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, which will take place January 4-12 in Finland.

Saskatoon’s Alida Korte and Ava Drabyk will join Prince Albert’s Stryker Zablocki in Group B action.

Canada is set to compete against Switzerland, Czechia and Slovakia.

Oatway claims gold and bronze at Para Alpine Ski World Cup

At the FIS Para Alpine Ski World Cup in Steinach am Brenner, Austria, Kurt Oatway out of the Regina Alpine Race Team, had two podium finishes.

Oatway claimed gold in the super-g category, as well as a bronze the alpine combined.

Team Canada West finishes third

After helping represent Team Canada West, four Saskatchewan hockey players concluded their time at the 2024 Junior A World Challenge, with a third-place finish.

Following back-to-back losses, 9-0 to the United States and 6-0 to Sweden, Team West secured a spot in the bronze medal game against Team Canada East.

In a battle of the coasts, Canada West took the 5-2 win, with Regina’s Koen Senft scoring two of the goals. Ellis Mieyette (Lumsden), Jaxon Herchak (Waldheim) and Connor Miller (Lipton) joined Senft on the ice.

Tierney sets Canadian record

Saskatoon-born, Blake Tierney swam to set a Canadian record in the men’s 100-metre backstroke event at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships, which took place Dec. 10-15 in Budapest.

Tierney’s time of 49.39 seconds broke the previous record set by Javier Acevedo at the 2022 World Cup series. In addition, Tierney joined the men’s 4×100-m freestyle relay and finished 12th, with a combined time of 3:10.70 seconds.
