Parks named to ringette national team
Brigette Parks, of Regina, was named by Ringette Canada as one of the 20 athletes that will form the U18 Development Team this season.
The team will represent the nation at the 2025 International Development Festival, held alongside the World Ringette Championships from November 1-5, in Pajulahti, Finland.
In addition, Regina’s Daina Seymour will join as assistant coach.
Major, Canada earn bronze at Softball World Games
Delisle’s Max Major and Warman’s Justin Laskowski joined Team Canada in their bronze-medal performance at the 2025 World Games Men’s Softball in China.
Canada had a mix start to the tournament, dominating Australia 11-2, before falling 6-3 to the United States and narrowly taking the 9-8 win over Singapore. The Canadians lost 6-1 to Japan in playoffs, earning them a spot to play for bronze.
Due to weather conditions, the final day of competition was cancelled, leaving Canada and Venezuela both as bronze medallists.
Renneberg set to attend World Para Athletics Championships
Athletics Canada announced Ashlyn Renneberg, who hails from Saskatoon, as one of the 26 Para athletes set to compete at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships.
Renneberg will travel to New Delhi, India to compete from Sept. 26 – Oct. 5 in the women’s javelin throw F13 event.
Sask. athletes to represent Canada on women’s hockey teams
Hockey Canada announced Boylston’s Kendall Doiron and Saskatoon’s Alida Korte, both forwards, as part of the National Women’s U18 Hockey Team roster for a three-game series against the United States that will compete Aug. 13-16 in Lake Placid, NY.
Meanwhile, Prince Albert forward Stryker Zablocki will also be competing on the same dates and at the same location as a member of Canada’s National Women’s Development Team for a separate three-game series against the United States.
Two Sask. Para swimmers medal at Championships
Two Saskatchewan Para swimmers attended the 2025 Speedo Canadian Short Course Championships, which took place from Aug. 7-10 in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
Saskatoon’s Shelby Newkirk claimed multiple medals including three gold and a silver, while also unofficially setting a new World Para Swimming (WPS) Americas record in the women’s S5 50-metre and 100-m breaststroke events.
Meanwhile, Moose Jaw’s Leo Zhang also unofficially set a WPS Americas record in the S6 men’s 200-m freestyle event.
