Crozon, Canada win FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series Championship

Humboldt’s Paige Crozon helped Canada capture the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series 2022 Championship in Romania this past week.

The Canadian women found themselves down 12-5 in the championship game but rallied back to defeat France 21-16 in the Constanta Finals, going undefeated at the tournament. The win capped off a dominate season as the women put up a record of 25 wins and three losses, winning four titles along the way.

Ostepchuk, Sopotyk compete at IWBF Men’s U23 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship

Regina’s Garrett Ostepchuk and Aberdeen’s Kyrell Sopotyk recently suited up for Canada at the IWBF Men’s U23 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in Phuket, Thailand.

The Canadian men finished in 10th place overall in the seventh edition of the event, which is typically held every four years, with 12 countries participating. However, this was the first tournament played since 2017.

Linklater to headline 2022 AthletesCAN Forum

Former Canadian 3×3 basketball star and Indigenous advocate Michael Linklater is set to headline the 2022 AthletesCAN Forum, scheduled for Oct. 15-16.

Linklater, who won championships with the Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League and the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, will give a keynote address to begin the event. His address will speak to how inclusion and accessibility in sport can improve the sport culture across Canada.

The forum, titled Reimagining Culture through a Safe Sport Lens, will be open to all National Team athletes qualifying for AthletesCAN membership.

Mayer, Canada win 2022 Quad Nations tournament

Regina’s Britt Mayer and Canada’s wheelchair rugby team completed an undefeated run at the 2022 Quad Nations tournament on Sunday with a double overtime win against Great Britain – the reigning Paralympic champions – in the final.

Canada’s 12-man roster went 5-0 in Wales to claim the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Trophy. Earlier in the day, Canada put up an impressive performance against Germany, winning 53-49 in the semi-final to earn a spot in the final.

Next up for Canada is the World Championships which begin Oct. 11 in Vejle, Denmark.
