McDonald, Team Canada comes up short in gold medal game at World Para Ice Hockey Championship 

Team Canada won silver after being defeated by Team USA 6-1 in the gold medal game at the World Para Ice Hockey Championship in Moose Jaw on Sunday  

Canada went into the final game strong, carrying a win against Czechia 5-0 in semifinals. The USA earned two goals in each of the three periods, while Canada received what would be their only goal of the game in the third period and were unable to make up the difference on the score board.  

Regina’s Kyle McDonald supported the team throughout the championship as their Mental Performance Consultant.

Priddel, Carroll, Team Canada wins silver at World Cup Artistic Swimming in Oviedo, Spain 

Team Canada’s captain, Kenzie Priddell represented Regina at the World Cup Artistic Swimming alongside Saskatoon’s Sydney Carroll and nine other elite athletes.  

The team attended training camp in Budapest before their arrival in Spain for the World Cup. In the second day of competition, Canada claimed bronze for their Team Free routine and finished second overall in the world cup, receiving a score of 197.1600, placing behind Ukraine and ahead of Israel.  

Priddell and her partner preformed as a duet in the free event for the second time at competition. The duo received a score of 158.3020 and came in seventh.  

The team is looking ahead to the World Aquatics Championships July 14-27 in Fukuoka, Japan

Sask Athletes, Mamer and Musschoot announced on Volleyball Canada roster for Under 21 tournaments 

Isaiah Mamer from Wilkie and Grenfell’s Lucas Musschoot were announced by Volleyball Canada as part of the 2023 roster for the U21 men’s team.  

With their 14 other teammates, Mamer and Musschoot aim to reach for a spot on the podium at the Pan American Cup in La Habana, Cuba June 3-11.   

In their first game, against Puerto Rico, Canada edged their way to a 3-2 win (26-28, 27-25, 22-25, 25-19 and 19-17). The intense game lasted three-hours, allowing the team to achieve 66-55 in attacks, 10-7 in blocks and 10-7 with their serves.  

Looking ahead, the U21 team will also be attending the FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship in Manama, Bahrain from July 7-16.

Three Saskatchewan names announced to represent Canada at the World Aquatics Championships  

Olympic diver Rylan Wiens and Elaena Dick from the Saskatoon Diving Club along with six other qualified athletes are set to attend the Fukuoka World Championships in Japan, July 14-22. 

The athletes earned their place on the national team after their performances at the 2023 Summer Senior National Championships. The World Championship will act as a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. 

Saskatoon Diving Club coach Mary Carroll will be guiding the divers through their time at the Championship.

National Excellence Program returns for the fourth year with two Sask. athletes set to attend 

The National Excellence Program is returning for the fourth time, as they prepare to welcome Saskatchewan’s Sara Gray and Gabrielle Flaman as well as 16 other athletes to Richmond, B.C. in the fall. 

The program offers full-time training to Grade 11 and 12 women, focusing on tactical and technical training with the Senior Women’s National Team. During their time at the National Excellence Program (NEP), the group will have opportunities to experience strength and conditioning training, education on nutrition, mental performance and will be introduced to leading international volleyball programs. 

Sydney Krushen awarded Most Valuable Player title   

After the NCL 17U National Finals ended, Water Polo Canada announced the individual winners of the 2023 17U Men’s and Women’s National Finals Champions.  

After being voted on by the team’s coaches, Regina’s Sydney Krushen was awarded the Most Valuable Player title on the women’s side.  

Alastair Marshall set to join Rugby Canada U20 team 

Alastair Marshall from Hudson Bay was announced to join Team Canada as they take on Team USA June 6 and 10, fighting for a spot in the 2023 World Rugby U20 Trophy. 

The team is playing for the North American berth position at the first World Rugby U20 Trophy since 2019. If Canada wins, they will be joined by seven teams and compete in Nairobi, Kenya from July 15-30. 

Prince Albert track athlete makes history as he ties Canada’s national record in 100-metre dash 

Storm Zablocki of Prince Albert recently attended the Bob Vigars Classic in London, Ont., where he tied the national record in the U20 100-metre dash. 

Now matching the previous record from 2013, Zablocki and Andre Degrasse share the 10.25 second time. 

Crozon, Canada takes sixth place at FIBA 3×3 Basketball World Cup  

Paige Crozon and her team brought Canada to sixth place overall at the FIBA 3×3 Basketball World Cup.  

Team Canada defeated Mongolia and Hungary in the last portion of the round-robin but were narrowly defeated to a loss by France in the quarterfinals, 14-13
