Team Canada clothing unveiled for the Beijing Winter Games

Canadian athletes will wear the red for opening ceremonies and white for the closing ceremonies at the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics it was revealed Wednesday as the lululemon clothing was unveiled Wednesday.

In a Canadian Olympic Committee release the kit is described as a “dynamic dressing system is intended to be layered, combined, and modified by the athletes to suit their personality and their personal needs when it comes to staying warm or staying cool. As much as the Olympic Games are a moment of unity, the kit allows the athletes to showcase their individuality.” Read the full release and check out the gear at Olympic.ca

Saskatchewan curlers vying for final spots at Olympic trials

Three Saskatchewan-based curling teams are competing in the final chance pre-trials event this week for an opportunity to advance to the Canadian Olympic curling trials in Saskatoon in November.

Saskatchewan’s entries include Martenville’s Sherry Anderson and Moose Jaw’s Penny Barker on the women’s side and Saskatoon’s Colton Flasch in the men’s draw. Pat Simmons, also from Saskatchewan, will compete with a rink from Manitoba in the pre-trials event in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.

The pre-trials includes 28 rinks (14 men and 14 women) competing for the final four berths into the Olympic trials. Two pools of seven in each gender, with the top three teams in each advancing to the weekend playoffs. Read the full details include draw schedule and scores at curling.ca.

Women’s hockey centralization schedule

Saskatoon’s Emily Clark and Canada’s National Women’s Hockey Team have announced an 18-game schedule for the team in preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. 

The 29-player roster will face the United States in nine rivalry games starting Oct. 22 in Allentown, PA. The Canadian dates on the tour include stops in Kingston and Ottawa in November, as well as Edmonton and Red Deer in January. 

Canada will also travel to Finland to play three games. Other games include two against an all-star team from the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association in December and four games against Junior A clubs from the Alberta Junior Hockey League.  For more information, visit hockeycanada.ca.

Moran, McGladdery named to senior archery team

Prince Albert’s Tristan Moran and Marsden’s Erin McGladdery have been named to rosters for Archery Canada’s 2022 Senior National Compound Squad.

Moran is one of six on the men’s team, while McGladdery is one of five on the women’s team who will represent Canada on the international stage for the 2022 season, including the Hyundai Archery World Cup.

The short-term goal of the squad is to help qualify a full team for the 2023 Pan American Games scheduled for Oct. 20 to Nov.5, 2023 in Santiago, Chile. Read the full story on archerycanada.ca.

Connell finishes second at Westerns

It’s been almost two years since racquetball athletes have had the opportunity to compete in Western Canada, but they got their chance at the Western Canadian Championships Oct. 22-24 in Calgary and Saskatoon’s Lee Connell used the opportunity to pick up a silver medal in the men’s open singles division.

As the No. 1 seed entering the competition, Connell received a by to the quarterfinals, where he defeated Alejandro Morales in two straight sets 15-5 and 15-4.

Connell lost his opening set against Tanner Mattson 15-10 in the semifinals but battled back to win the final sets 15-8 and 11-4 to win the match and advance to the finals.

Unfortunately, Connell lost the final match in straight sets 15-8 and 15-9 to No. 2 ranked Kurtis Cullen of Brandon, MB.
