Denelle Pedrick helps Canada win historic medal at Artistic Gymnastics World Championships

Wilcox’s Denelle Pedrick and Canada won its first ever team medal at the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Liverpool, England, as the team captured bronze with a score of 160.563, finishing behind the United States and Great Britain, who finished first and second respectively.

The feat also secured the Canadian women a team spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The five gymnasts who will make up that team will be determined closer to the event. This was Pedrick’s first time representing Canada at the world championships.

Paige Crozon, Canada capture 3×3 AmeriCup title

Paige Crozon can add more hardware to her already impressive 3×3 basketball resume, as the Humboldt product helped Canada to the gold medal at the FIBA AmeriCup in Miami on the weekend.

Canada beat Brazil 15-11 in the final, after downing the United States 17-15 in the semifinals. The latest win continues a dominating stretch by the Canadian women, who were coming off a Women’s Series Final win in Romania in September.

Hasal called up to Canada’s men’s soccer team for pre-World Cup camp

Saskatoon’s Thomas Hasal is joining Canada’s men’s national soccer team for pre-World Cup training camp, which is underway this week in Bahrain. The week-long camp will see Canada take on Bahrain at Al-Khalifa Stadium on Friday.

This season, Hasal, a product of the Whitecaps FC Saskatchewan Academy Centre, started a career-high 17 games for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

He has previously represented Canada at the U18, U20 and U23 levels.

Wyatt Lightfoot competes at the Para Badminton World Championships

Assiniboia’s Wyatt Lightfoot was in action at the Badminton World Federation Para Badminton World Championships in Tokyo, Japan this past week.

Lightfoot won two of his three round robin matches in men’s singles, but then fell to Victor Goncalves Tavares in the elimination round. Lightfoot also competed in men’s doubles with partner Justin Kendrick, however the duo won one of their three round robin matches.

Senft, Canada fall to England at the Rugby World Cup

Regina’s Gabrielle Senft and Team Canada will play for third place at the Women’s Rugby World Cup, after losing to top-ranked England 26-19 in the semifinal in Auckland, New Zealand on the weekend.

Canada will now play France in the third-place game.

Kozun competing for Canada at the WPV Sitting Volleyball Championships

Melfort’s Julie Kozun and Team Canada are off to a strong start at the World Para Volley Sitting Volleyball Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The women wrapped up the first phase of the world championship on Sunday with a win over Iran, which followed a five-set loss against the United States earlier in the day. Canada opened up the tournament with a win over Slovenia on Saturday.

Canada is back in action on Tuesday as they search for their first-ever medal at the event.

Meachem, Team Sask open with win at Canadian Mixed Curling Championship

Team Meachem, out of the Swift Current Curling Club, picked up a 5-2 win over Alberta in their opening draw at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Prince Albert.

The rink, featuring skip Shaun Meachem, third Kelly Schafer, second Chris Haichert and lead Teejay Haichert, then lost to Quebec 8-2 before beating Yukon 7-2 on Monday.
