Saskatchewan diving trio brings home multiple medals

Rylan Wiens added another medal to his collection, as the Pike Lake product earned a second-place finish at the Futures Cup in Plymouth, United Kingdom this weekend.

Wiens’ silver medal was one of nine Canadian finishes from the weekend, as his score of 453.54 points edged out fellow Canadian Matt Cullen for second place in the 10-metre event. After making his Olympic debut in Tokyo, the next big events on Wiens’ calendar are the 2022 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Also reaching the podium were Regina’s Bjorn Markentin and Margo Erlam, who trains with Wiens under Mary Carrol in Saskatoon. Markentin, who was making his first international appearance for Canada, claimed a silver medal in the men’s 3-m springboard event with 365.25 points.

Meanwhile, Erlam made it a trio of Saskatchewan divers to reach the podium, as she won a bronze medal in the women’s 3-m event with 309.40 points. Erlam and teammate Mia Vallée also teamed up for a gold medal in the 10-m synchro event with a score of 305.70.
