Crozon, Canada golden at FIBA 3×3 Champions Cup

Canada brought the heat at the inaugural FIBA 3×3 Champions Cup in Bangkok, defeating Spain 15-13 to claim the first-ever championship title.

Prior, Humboldt’s Paige Crozon and teammates Kacie Bosch, Katherine Plouffe and Saicha Grant-Allen went 3-0 in pool play and earned a place in semifinals. Canada defeated Australia 18-16 with Crozon hitting a buzzer beater and securing their spot in the gold-medal game.

Douglas named to Canada’s U20 women’s rugby roster

Elle Douglas, who hails from Saskatoon, was among the 28 players selected to join Canada’s U20 women’s rugby team, May 10 and 17 in Dublin.

In 2023, Ireland launched their U20 program and these games will mark the first time that Canada has played the host country in women’s U20 competition.

Barth, Qing at Special Olympics World Winter Games 

Two Regina alpine skiers were in Turin, Italy from March 8-15 for the Special Olympics World Winter Games.

Taylor Barth claimed gold in the M08 intermediate giant slalom with a time of 1:06.290 and in the M06 intermediate slalom race with a 31.990 time. In addition, Barth competed in the M01 intermediate super G event with a 42.52 time and finished fourth.

Meanwhile, Michael Qing secured silver in the M11 intermediate giant slalom event with a time of 1:31.590. He also finished fifth in M067 intermediate slalom and sixth in the M05 intermediate super G with a time of 53.67 seconds.

On the coaching side, Eric Lautsch attended the Games with Canada’s snowshoe team, claiming gold in the M01 and F01 divisions, as well as in the 4 x 100m relay.

Fish at Speed Skating Championships

Moose Jaw speed skater, Graeme Fish wrapped the season at the ISU World Speed Skating Championships in Hamar, Norway.

He finished 11th in the men’s 10,000-metre race, with a time of 13:13.55 seconds and 13th in the 5,000-m event with a 6:23.73 second time.

Three Sask curlers at 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship

Three Saskatchewan curlers are competing at the 2025 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship from March 16-21, in Summerside, P.E.I.

Humboldt’s Kirk Muyres and Edmonton’s Laura Walker have had a strong start with a 4-0 record in round robin play to sit top of Pool C.

Meanwhile Nancy Martin and Steve Laycock, both of Martensville, sit 7th in Pool B after with 2-2 record in pool play.

Playoffs will start the morning of March 20, with quarterfinals taking place later that evening.
