Dave Adolph honoured at the 2024 U SPORTS Awards

Saskatoon’s Dave Adolph was announced as the recipient of the Jean-Marie de Koninck Coaching Excellence Award at the 2024 U SPORTS Honours Awards on June 12, in Calgary.

Adolph was recognized for his contributions as a men’s hockey coach for 31 seasons. He started his journey in 1989 with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, before transitioning to work with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in 1993 until his retirement in 2020.

As head coach, he led the Huskies to seven Canada West Championships and to claim two silver and one bronze at the University Cup. In addition, he was named the U SPORTS men’s hockey coach of the year in 2017.

Johnson joins 2024 National Baseball Team Selection Camp

Amy Johnson, who hails from Saskatoon, was named to the women’s 2024 National Team Selection Camp roster, which will take place July 3-7 in Ottawa.

The camp will consist of games amongst the team and daily practices, as the athletes attempt to earn one of 20 spots available on the national team.

Those who earn a spot on Team Canada will look ahead to the 2024 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Finals July 28 – August 3, in Thunder Bay.

Kozun, Canada has mixed results at World ParaVolley Super Six

Julie Kozun of Melfort joined Team Canada to compete at the World ParaVolley Super Six tournament from June 11-16 in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy, France.

Canada had mixed results, opening the tournament with a loss against China 0-3 (19-25, 13-25, 16-25), before defeating France 3-0 (25-9, 25-8, 25-11). In three straight loses, Canada fell to Italy 0-3 (22-25, 24-26, 23-25), Brazil 0-3 (18-25, 19-25, 21-25) and the United States 0-3 (20-25,16-25,16-25).

In their final match, Canada ended with a victory, defeating France 3-0 (25-6, 25-7, 25-5), to finish in fifth place.
