Crozon, Team Canada conquers in overtime at FIBA 3×3 Edmonton Stop 2023 

Paige Crozon, from Humbolt, attended the 3×3 Women’s Series Edmonton Stop with Team Canada and left victorious over China with a 16-14 win in overtime. 

Canada started strong in Edmonton, defeating Poland 22-12 before their next game against Chile, which they won 20-9. In semi-finals, Team Canada defeated the USA 18-10, and claimed their place in finals.  

China placed second and the USA placed third in the tournament.  

The next stop set in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series is in Prague, Czech Republic from August 4-5.    

Newkirk claims gold opening day in Manchester at the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships  

Saskatoon’s Shelby Newkirk and Nikita Ens, with Team Canada are attending the 2023 Para Swimming World Championships from July 31 to August 6, in Manchester. 

The first day of the championships started strong for Newkirk as she swam her way to gold in the women’s S6 100 backstroke. Alongside claiming gold, Newkirk set a new Canadian and championship record with a time of 1:20:62 and took her second straight world crown.  

Canada enters day two with high energy, looking to bring home more medals. 

Connell and Ramsay announced to join Canada’s racquetball team at Santiago 2023  

Lee Connell and Danielle Ramsay from Saskatoon are set to join Team Canada as alternate athletes in racquetball at Santiago 2023 from October 20 to November 5, in Chile. 

Racquetball games will take place from October 21-26 at Estadio Nacional. 

Team Saskatchewan comes home empty handed from Football Canada’s 2023 Women’s U18 Championship 

After their first defeat, Saskatchewan entered semi-finals on a low and put in a team effort but were ultimately beat by Quebec 63-29. The consolation final took place July 29, and Saskatchewan played their final game against Ontario Red, ending the tournament with another loss. 

Saskatchewan athletes find podium success at 2023 Bell Canadian Track and Field Championships

Various Saskatchewan Track and Field teams attended the 2023 Bell Canadian Track and Field Championships from July 27-30 in Langley, BC. 

Many talented athletes claimed medals while in attendance, including: 

  • Janz Stein placed first with a 6.09m distance in Men’s Long Jump (para ambulatory) F64 F37 Ambulatory 
  • Attleigh Maloney placed first in Women’s 400m (U20 Qualifying), with a time of 58:76 
  • Brendan Cote-Williamson placed second with a time of 11:96 in Men’s 100m (para ambulatory) Ambulatory and second with a 52:58 time in the Men’s 400m (para ambulatory) T47 Ambulatory  
  • Kendra Farmer placed second in the Women’s 200m (Senior Qualifying), with a 24:61 time 
  • Michelle Harrison, placed first in Women’s 100m hurdles (senior) prelims with a 13.00 qualifying time, and first in Women’s 100m hurdles (senior) with a 12.82 time 
  • Selena Keyowski placed third with a 14:23 time in Women’s 100m Hurdles (U20)  
  • Nicole Ostertag placed first in Women’s Heptathlon 100m Hurdles (senior), Heptathlon Shot Put (Senior), Heptathlon 200m (Senior), second in Women’s Heptathlon 800m (Senior), Heptathlon Long Jump (Senior), and third in Women’s Heptathlon Javelin throw (Senior) 
  • Paige Willems placed first in Women’s 200m (Senior Qualifying) with a time of 24:41 
  • Katiana Gilbert placed third in Women’s 200m (U20 Qualifying) with a 25:48 time 
  • Savannah Sutherland placed first in both Women‘s 400m Hurdles (Senior) Prelims and Women’s 400m Hurdles (Senior) 
  • Kira Wignes placed first in Women’s 800m (U20 Qualifying) with a time of 2:19.04 
  • Skylar Dyck placed first in Women’s 1500m (U20 Qualifying) with a 4:41.31 time
  • Ashwin Witt placed first in Men’s Long Jump (U20 Qualifying) with a 6.51m distance 
  • Nicholas Ambrose placed third in Men’s Pole Vault (U20 Qualifying) with a 3.50m distance  
  • Vaughn Taylor placed first in Men’s 800m (Senior Qualifying) with a time of 1:50.65 
  • Ron MacLean placed first in Men’s 1500m (Senior Qualifying) with a 3:47.91 time 
  • Scott Joseph placed second with a 7.46m distance in Men’s Long Jump (Senior)  
  • Storm Zablocki placed first in Men’s 100m (U20) Semis, Men’s 100m (U20), and third in Men’s 100m (U20) Prelims 
  • Brayden Mytopher placed third in Men’s 1500m (Senior Qualifying) with a 3:48.40 time 
  • Jonathan Podbielski placed first in Men’s 800m (U20) Prelims, Men’s 800m (U20), and Men’s 1500m (U20) 
  • Shelaine Pritchard placed first in Women’s Heptathlon 100m Hurdles (U20), Women’s Heptathlon 200m (U20), Women’s Heptathlon Long Jump (U20), second in Women’s Heptathlon High Jump (U20), and third in Women’s Heptathlon Shot Put (U20) 
  • Sara Kozan placed second in Women’s Long Jump (Senior Qualifying) with a distance of 5.86m 
  • Ayva Delainey placed first in Women’s 200m (Para Wheelchair) T33,52,54 Wheelchair and second in Women’s 100m and 400m (Para Wheelchair) T54 Wheelchair 
  • Kyrell Sopotyk placed first in Men’s 400m (Class 53) T53 Wheelchair, Men’s 800m (Para Wheelchair) T53 Wheelchair, and Men’s 1500m (Para Wheelchair) T53 T54 Wheelchair 
  • Maitlan Knoke placed first in Men Shot Put (Para Wheelchair) Wheelchair and second in Men’s Discus Throw (Para Wheelchair) F54,55,56 Wheelchair 
  • Teddy Hudye placed first in Men’s Javelin Throw (Para Wheelchair) Mixed – RAZA Wheelchair with a 15.83 m distance and second in Men’s Shot Put (Para Wheelchair) Wheelchair with a distance of 6.37m
