Hudak collects silver, bronze to begin Para Nordic World Championships
Prince Albert’s Brittany Hudak won a silver medal in the women’s standing biathlon competition to open the 2023 Para Nordic World Championships in Ostersund, Sweden on Saturday. Hudak had a perfect day on the shooting range and clocked in with a time of 23:14.2, finishing less than 30 seconds behind Canadian teammate Natalie Wilkie, who won gold.
Hudak then followed that up with a bronze medal finish on Sunday in the women’s individual start classic-ski race, finishing with a time of 59:39.0.
The medals were the first of Hudak’s career at the world championships after a number of fourth place finishes in her career. The event goes until Jan. 29.

Oatway representing Canada at world ski championships
Calgary’s Kurt Oatway, from the Regina Alpine Race Team, is representing Canada at the FIS Para Alpine World Ski Championships, which are taking place Jan. 21-29 in Espot, Spain.
In his first race of the event, the men’s sitting Super-G, Oatway finished in fifth place with a time of 58.64, just 1.66 seconds back of first place.
This is the fifth world championship appearance for Oatway, who won two silver medals at the event in Slovakia in 2019. The 2018 Paralympic gold medalist is returning from an injury at last year’s world championship.

Four Sask. athletes, one coach named to U23 Softball Canada roster
Four athletes from Saskatchewan and one coach have been named to Softball Canada’s U23 national team ahead of the 2023 World Baseball Softball Confederation U23 Men’s Softball World Cup in Parana, Argentina from Apr. 15-23.
Among the athletes named to the roster ealier this month are Delisle’s James Shirley and Brant Wiebe, along with Saskatoon’s Jordan Hudson. They will be joined by Prince Albert’s Matthew Kutnikoff, who was added to the athlete pool this week. The coaching staff features Melfort’s Dean Holoien.

Spicer Moran named to national compound archery team
Prince Albert’s Tristan Spicer Moran has been selected as one of 13 athletes on Archery Canada’s 2023 National Compound Squad.
The big events on the calendar this year include the World Archery Championships this summer in Berlin and the Pan Am Games, which take place from Oct. 20 – Nov. 5 in Santiago, Chile.

Neufeldt races at the IBSF World Cup
Saskatoon’s Evan Neufeldt finished in 23rd place in the men’s skeleton event at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation’s World Cup stop in Altenberg, Germany on Jan. 20.
In his first run, Neufeldt put up a time of 59.13, however he did not qualify for the final run of the day.
