Aikens and Canadian women’s rugby 7s team finish second

The Canadian women’s rugby 7s team, including Briercrest’s Delaney Aikens, fell just short of back-to-back cup victories at the Emirates Invitational 7s in Dubai after losing 17-12 to France in the final on April 9.

Canada, who went undefeated at the previous tournament, also lost to France 29-10 in round robin play.

The two tournaments acted as Olympic tune-up events for the team which has already earned a berth.

Canada secures Olympic men’s curling berth

Thanks to a Top 6 finish by Team Canada (represented by Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher) at the Men’s World Curling Championships, Canada has earned a berth at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

What’s yet to be determined is who will wear the red and white at the Games.

That answer will come at the 2021 Roar of the Rings, scheduled Nov. 20-28 in Saskatoon.

Canada will look to secure more Olympic berths at the World Women’s Curling Championship (April 30-May 9) as well as the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship (May 17-23).
