Three Saskatchewan speed skaters competing at championships

Regina’s Kali Christ and Marsha Hudey, as well as Moose Jaw’s Graeme Fish are among the speed skaters who will be taking part in the Canadian Long Track Championships Oct. 13-17 in Calgary.

Christ, a two-time Olympian, will be competing in the women’s 1,000-, 1,500- and 3,000-metre races and the Mass Start event. Hudey, who has also competed at two Olympic Games, will compete in the 500- and 1,000-m races.

Meanwhile, Fish will race in the men’s 5,000- and 10,000-m distances and the Mass Start event. Fish currently holds the world record in the 10,000-m event with a time of 12:33.86.

The results from this event will help finalize the members of the National Team and the NextGen Team for the 2021-22 season, serve as a selection event for those who will represent Canada on the World Cup circuit this fall and is an important step for those competing for a spot at the 2022 Beijing Winter Games.

A live stream of the event will be available on the Speed Skating Canada YouTube channel.
