Team Saskatchewan #1 starts strong

Team Saskatchewan #1 started strong at the 2024 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship in Moose Jaw.

After going head-to-head with Team Saskatchewan #2, skip Gil Dash, vice-skip Marie Wright, second Moose Gibson and lead Sheryl Pederson came out on top with an 11-1 win.

Saskatchewan #1 defeated Ontario #2 12-3, bringing Team Dash to third in the round robin standings.

Wiens dives to silver in men’s 10-metre synchronized event

Pike Lake’s, Rylan Wiens, claimed a silver medal in the men’s 10-metre synchronized dive event with partner, Nathan Zsombor-Murray, at the Berlin World Cup in Germany.

The event ran from March 21-24 and the duo finished with 408.99 points.

Bronze for Para cyclist Shaw

Keely Shaw, who hails from Midale, placed third in the women’s individual pursuit C4 race at the 2024 UCI Para-Track World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Shaw finished with 88.00 points, which earned her bronze.

Silver medal for Muyres at curling championship

Humbolt’s Kirk Muyres secured silver at the 2024 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship with six other Saskatchewan curlers who concluded their time in New Brunswick.

Muyres, with Edmonton’s Laura Walker, went 7-0 in the round robin, followed by two more wins, which qualified them for the gold medal game. Muyres and Walker fell 5-7 to Team Lott, to claim silver.   

Christie and Rylan Kleiter, who hail from Saskatoon, went 5-2 in the round robin, before back-to-back defeats.

After going 5-2 in the round robin, Martensville pair Steve Laycock and Nancy Martin had a mixed end to the championship. They won against Team Epping and Weagle before they conceded their final game against Team Lott.

Christie Gamble and Dustin Kalthoff of Saskatoon ended their time at the championship after going 3-4 in the round robin.
