Saskatchewan finishes fourth at Football Canada Cup

Regina played host to the Football Canada Cup from July 5 -13, featuring some of the top U18 football teams from across the country.

Team Saskatchewan started strong, dominating Manitoba 36-7 in their first game but ended up losing to Ontario 32-7 in semifinals. In the bronze medal game, Team Saskatchewan fell 35-0 to Alberta and finished fourth in the final standings.

Canada places third at 2024 WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Group B

Warman’s Justin Laskowski joined Team Canada from July 10-14 at the 2024 WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Group B, in Prince Albert.

Canada went 2-2 in the round robin and made a 8-0 comeback against Singapore in playoffs, to qualify for the repechage game against New Zealand. In their final match, Canada fell 4-1 to finish third, but will advance to the 2026 World Cup Final as the host country.

Group C will be held September 17-21 in Oklahoma City with two more spots on the line. One wild card team will round out the eight-team field.

Mullin attends U20 Pa-American Championships

Sierra Mullin, who hails from Saskatoon, concluded her time at the U20 Pan-American Championships, held from July 11-13 in Lima, Peru.

Mullin started strong, dominating the qualification round 10-0 against Ecuador, before losing 6-0 against Mexico in quarterfinals, which brought an end to her time in Lima. She finished seventh in the women’s 53-kilogram weight class.

Five more Saskatchewan athletes on Team Canada roster

Five more Saskatchewan athletes have been named to Team Canada for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris. Attending on behalf of the red and white will be:

  • Carissa Norsten – Rugby – Waldheim
  • Trey Lyles – Basketball – Saskatoon
  • Ryan Rousell – Wheelchair Fencing – Saskatoon
  • Nik Goncin – Wheelchair Basketball – Regina
  • Garrett Ostepchuk – Wheelchair Basketball – Regina
