Celebrating Pride Month

June 2, 2025

Since 2000, Canada has joined numerous other countries in the celebration of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and their history. As designated, June marks Pride Month and features various forms of celebratory events to honour the history associated with the month.

Throughout June, Sask Sport will share stories every Monday that celebrate Pride though the lens of sport and explore how the power of sport can be used toward creating an inclusive and safe space for participants.

We encourage individuals to take the time to be part of the change to making sport more safe, inclusive and inviting.

Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport

The CCES provides information and resources on topics like supporting gender diversity, creating inclusive environments for trans participants, and advocating for athletes with differences of sexual development.

Sport Inclusion Task Force

Founded during the 2015 Pan American Games, the Sport Inclusion Task Force is steered by the Canadian Olympic Committee, Professional Golfers Association of Canada, Canadian Women & Sport, the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary and Challenge Accepted Collective. The group’s website launched in 2021 with the aim of supporting national, provincial/territorial and local or club sport organizations who wish to make their organizations more equitable, diverse and inclusive for those who identify as members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Why is Pride Month Important in Sport

Dedicated to creating an equitable and inclusive Canadian sport system, Canadian Women & Sport has shared various resources to assist sport organizations and leaders in expanding their knowledge around an inclusive and safe environment for 2SLGBTQ+ women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals.

Pflag Canada

A national charitable organization founded by parents to increase acceptance and understanding of their 2SLGBTQ+ children.

Local Resources

Saskatchewan has a strong support network for the 2SLGBTQ+ community. OUTSaskatoon and the UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity both offer a variety of supports and programming, along with links to networks and organizations across the province. Other Saskatchewan-based organizations supporting the 2SLGBTQ+ community include Queen City Pride, Moose Jaw PridePrince Albert Pride and the Saskatchewan Pride Network.
