Canadian 3×3 basketball team with Crozon miss out on Olympic qualifier

Canada’s 3×3 Team with Humbolt’s Paige Crozon were just short of qualifying at the FIBA 3×3 Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2 in Utsunomiya and Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

In their first game against Kenya, Canada won 19-12, followed by a 22-9 win over the Netherlands with Crozon shooting the winning two- point shot. Canada lost to Australia 21-16 but made a comeback in semifinals against Germany with a 18-12 win.

In the final game, Canada once again faced Australia with an Olympic berth going to the victory. Canada was defeated for the second time, 19-16 and finished second overall.

Crozon was the tournament’s leading scorer with 33 points.

Canada will have one more opportunity to secure an Olympic spot at the last-chance qualifier in Debrecen, Hungary. The top three finishers at that event, will qualify for Paris.

Hamilton, McQueen with Canada’s U18 hockey team to claim gold

Whitewood’s Reese Hamilton joined Team Canada to claim their first IIHF U18 World Championship gold medal since 2021 while in Finland.

Canada defeated Latvia 4-0 in quarterfinal action and advanced through semifinals after edging Sweden to a 5-4 loss. In the gold medal game, Canada came out on top, defeating the United States 6-4 to claim top of the podium.

Saskatoon’s Roger McQueen was also on the Canadian roster at the championship, but only played in the first two games as a result of injury.

Severson on Team Canada IIHF World Championship roster

Melville Product, Damon Severson was named alongside 21 other players to represent Canada at the upcoming IIHF World Championship, set for May 10 to 26 in Czechia.

Canada is set to play in Group A, with their first match against Great Britain.

Erlam dives to bronze

Margo Erlam, who hails from Saskatoon, concluded her time at the Canada Cup of Diving in Calgary after competing in three events.

Erlam, placed third in the women’s 3-metre prelims with 299.10 points, which qualified her for the final individual 3-m event. She just missed the podium with a score of 303.40 to take fourth place.

Joined by partner Aimee Wilson, Erlam competed in the women’s 3-m synchro finals with 262.20 points, to take home bronze.
