Goncin, Ostepchuk finish sixth at the IWBF World Championship 

Regina’s Nik Goncin and Garrett Ostepchuk with Team Canada, finished sixth in the men’s International Wheelchair Basketball Federation’s (IWBF) World Championship in Dubai after a winning three of their last six matches.  

Canada won back-to-back, defeating Egypt 87-41 and Brazil 69-53. They broke their winning streak against Netherlands, losing 68-53.  

Following a narrow 62-57 victory over Australia, the Canadian team entered their final game for fifth place against Italy on a high. In that game, Goncin scored 15 points, but Team Canada fell short of victory, concluding their time at the Dubai World Trade Centre with a 67-56 loss.

  

Albers, Molleken join Canada in success as they enter the final round of WBSS Americas Pan Am Games Qualifier  

North Battleford pitcher, Andrew Albers started his time with the senior men’s Canadian Baseball team at the WBSS Americas Pan Am Games with a win.  

Canada’s first game of the tournament started with them edging a win against Panama 6-5 before an 8-3 loss to Argentina. The team came back strong with an 11-1 win against Peru, securing their place in the final round of the games. 

Canada awaits the outcome of Argentina and Panama’s final game, to see who their opponent will be in the final round.  

Regina’s Dustin Molleken helped guide Team Canada through their games as coach. 

Dash, Wright announced as expansion to the National Wheelchair Curling Program 

Wolseley’s Gilbert Dash and Moose Jaw’s Marie Wright were announced by Curling Canada to join their expanded National Wheelchair Curling Program as Senior A Athletes.  

After Canada experienced success at the world championships, Curling Canada decided to bring on more athletes who have potential to bring the team success at future tournaments. Dash and Wright are joined by five other Senior A Athletes who joined them in representing Canada at the 2023 World Championships.  

Stryker Zablocki announced as part of U18 Team Canada by Athletics Canada for the NACAC U18/U23 Championships and Commonwealth Youth Games 

Prince Albert’s Stryker Zablocki is set to attend the NACAC U18/U23 Championships and Commonwealth Youth Games in San Jose, Costa Rica and compete in the girls’ 100-metre event from July 21-23. 

Zablocki will be accompanied by 8 other women and 11 men, making up the 2023 NACAC U18 team.
