Paralympian Erica Gavel announces retirement

2016 Paralympian and Team Canada wheelchair basketball player Erica Gavel has announced her retirement from the sport to transition into the next phase of her life.

The Prince Albert-born Gavel began playing wheelchair basketball in 2012 after an injury she received while playing stand-up basketball with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

Gavel first made the senior women’s national team in 2014 and made her Paralympic debut shortly after at the 2016 Games in Rio. In 2019, she also helped Canada capture gold at the Parapan Am Games in Lima, which earned Canada their spot at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Canadian Sport Centre Saskatchewan thanks Erica for her dedication and hard work through the years and wishes her good luck in her future endeavours.
